#168 – Belize – the islands
To the east side of Belize there are few islands. I was told about an island called Caye Caulker, it’s very popular destination with the backpackers. Indeed, when visiting you’ll notice almost everyone you run into is a foreigner. It wasn’t the type of place I wanted to stay at, but I thought I will do some swimming. I didn’t do any diving although we hear sometimes about Belize because of the Blue Hole which is a natural phenomena near Belize. But from what I heard from those who went diving and from what’s written online, blue hole is very overrated, and it requires special diving licensing as it’s more than 40 meter deep. Anyhow it was nice to spend the day at the water. I met some French tourists at the hostel where I was staying and they shared their experience in Guatemala which I found helpful since I will be heading to Guatemala later on.
The island was nice but it’s not the kind of experience I want to get from traveling as I don’t feel it’s any different than other places that has a beach. Anyway, I left the island to go to the west to visit a little town called San Ignacio and it’s on my way to Guatemala.
As I left the island, I went to buy a ticket to take the boat back to the mainland and I met a guy named Emil who gave some good information and places to visit in San Ignacio, because he was originally from there.
