I like to have new travel experiences and as my budget is a little tight on this trip, I decided to leave Rosario to go to Buenos Aires and I figured why not hitch hike all the way to Buenos Aires. Although I did few hitch hikes in the past but they were always for short distances so this one needs a little more preparation. I asked the staff at the hostel and they told me the best way would be to take a local bus to a little town called San Nicolas it will be closer to the highway and might give me better chance to get a ride from there. The girl at the hostel explained to me that there’s a terminal which is close to a big commercial truck’s terminal.
I took the bus from Rosario to San Nicolas, when the bus left the highway and took the ram to enter San Nicolas, the bus stopped to drop some passengers, I noticed a guy with a backpack getting off the bus. I was a little reluctant maybe I should get off but based on the information I understood from the girl at the hostel, I decided to stay until the final stop at the terminal. When we arrived at the terminal, I noticed that I should have trusted my extinct and got off at the stop where I saw the guy with the backpack. Now I have to walk all that distance back to the highway around 3 or 5 KM and it was very hot and sunny. Anyway, it’s always good to stay positive, I went across the street from the terminal and had lunch to store some energy to what’s coming up. I started to walk to go towards the highway, of course it’s not easy to walk with a backpack. It was good I did some yoga that morning so that should help 🙂

Right before I arrived at the highway I found an empty cardboard box of fruit, I cut it to make a sign and wrote Buenos Aires, this way it will be easier to get people attention and my destination, and hopefully increase the possibility of getting a ride in a shorter time. Of course this is not my idea, I saw other hitch hikers doing the same.

So now I am standing at the highway holding the sign, I was thinking with a pretty sign like that I should get a ride quickly 🙂 but after waiting for almost an hour and half I started to give up, there were many trailers and I was expecting one of them will stop but no one did. Finally, after I waved few cars and trucks that just passed by, I saw a red Volkswagen Golf was reversing in front of me, and I was like, are you sure and waving the driver is it ok and he waved yes. Wow, what a nice feeling, I put my backpack on the back seat and sat in the front leather seat, great feeling inside the air-conditioned car.

I started to chat with the guy his name is Andreas, he told me he himself hitchhiked few times in the past and he likes to help people. He was very kind, I even offered to pay the road toll, but he insisted not to do so. He dropped me at the nearest train station closed to where his last destination was, and I took the train for one hour from there to downtown Buenos Aires. It’s just nice when you meet people like Andreas who are willing to help a total stranger, when you think the world has many problems where people mistrust each other, it shows there are still a lot of good people out there and making the world a better place.
