Mexico city aerial view
I took the bus at 11 at night from Cuenca to go to Guayaquil which has international flights. It was about 4 hours and I slept most of it, when we arrived at the terminal in Guayaquil, I guess I wasn’t fully awake but I couldn’t recognize the bus station although I’ve been to Guayaquil twice, when I asked the bus driver he confirmed that it’s the final stop and it’s Guayaquil. Anyway, after some stretching a little, I took a taxi to go to the airport, it was good that I was early because there was a long line. I then went through the security and then went to the immigration, the immigration officer was checking on the computer longer than what I saw other passengers. I asked her if there’s a problem and she said she cannot find on how I re-entered Ecuador the last time. I told her if they don’t want me to leave the Ecuador, I wouldn’t mind I can stay. She laughed and I explained to her and showed her the stamps and then she corrected it on the computer. I started waiting for them to call for the flight so we can start the boarding process. But they were behind schedule, so I went the toilets and while I was there I heard them calling my name. So I ran, and I then I heard her telling the crew, we got the last passenger, get ready to close the doors. It was 6AM, and the sun started to rise, but we didn’t get to see the sun rays till we flew above the clouds. After an hour and half, we arrived in Bogota, Colombia, got on another airplane to head to Mexico. Although I didn’t step outside the airport but I was happy I passed by Colombia, and I felt the Colombian crew were very friendly, I think I am a little bias  When I airplane started to approach Mexico City, and although it was partly cloudy but I could see what a huge city. I read that it’s one of the biggest cities in the world, it has a population of 20 million people, just to put it into perspective. The whole population of Ecuador is 22 million and the whole population of Canada – the second largest country in land mass – has a population of 33 million. So you can imagine how big Mexico City is. The whole population of Mexico is 120 million, which is considered the largest Spanish speaking country in the world.
Right away I was really impressed once I found that there’s a metro/subway train from the airport to downtown. I usually like cities that have this service because it makes it very easy to travel. I didn’t do much that day, I was sleepy and tired.
