I went to visit Borobudur to see the largest Buddhist monument in the world. The pictures speak for themselves, it’s amazing when you see Borobudur especially when I saw that a century ago the site was hidden under volcano ashes and trees from the jungle, even today part of the site was closed to clean the ashes from last year’s volcano.
There was a replica ship which was constructed to prove that the people who lived in Borobudur reached east Africa. They were successfully able to do by sailing the replica ship to Ghana recently.

The other site I visited was the Prambanan, a collection of Hindu temples. It’s considered to be the largest in South East Asia. There’s also one Buddhist temple within the Prambanan temples, according to the research that was done, it seems that the Buddhist and Hindu were very close. In fact, the temples in Borobudur and Prambanan are thought to be constructed around the same time 8 or 9 AD. It also shows the harmony between the 2 religions. Some mountains surround the area, but getting there is not easy. Both of the two sites, the Prambanan and the Borobudur, are a UNNESCO world heritage. And they both show how old cultures left some marks by carving their history on stones. There has been an extensive work done to restore both of these site, and some of the pictures that were displayed at museums on these sites, shows the damage that has been done over the years from natural disasters or human neglect.
