#173-Trip to Coban
I left Flores to go to Coban, a city located close to some tourist attractions. It was the weekend and although there is transportation but it was a little limited. A colectivo, a little van converted to carry 14 passengers although most of the time they squeeze more passengers than that, and it’s used very frequently here in Latin America. I went to a little town called Sayaxche, it took about an hour and half. The little van stops on the other end of the river. So I had to take a little boat to cross the river to go to the center of the town and take another transportation. I was told because it’s the weekend there’s no transportation direct to Coban and I have to take another little van to a city in the middle of the way called Raxruha. The trip took about 2 hours and the van dropped me on a cross road where I found another van to go to Coban. The ride wasn’t easy because they squeeze people like chicken and I like living like the locals, and at the end I arrived in Coban. I was tired and I didn’t want to continue to my final destination and decided to spend the night in Coban. I didn’t have reservation as usual 🙂 so I went few places before I could find a room. It was good for the night and early morning I went for a breakfast before heading to Lanquin, the place that has some tourist’s attraction. There’s something about the breakfast that I found interesting, I ordered pancake with banana, that what was written on the menu, and then I got the pancake and shortly after the server brought me the banana. Yes, she just picked the banana from the shelf, I found it funny, may be because I was expecting to see the banana sliced on the pancake. Anyway the pancake tasted good and I went and took the bus to Lanquin.
