There are many hot springs in Taiwan, I think I read somewhere that Japan and Taiwan have the most hot springs in Asia. It has to do with the fact that both were formed from volcanoes. And since the Japanese occupied Taiwan for almost 50 years, they brought with them the custom of hot spas which became part of the Taiwanese culture. Now you see many hot spas in every corner.
I visited a couple of towns that have hot springs, they are located less than an hour from Taipei one of them Wulai was accessible by MRT(light train) and then took the bus, the other one Xinbeitou was accessible by the MRT.

Something I learned recently, the aboriginals who look similar to the native Indians in north America are the original inhabitants of Taiwan before the Chinese immigrants came to Taiwan. The aboriginals have similar culture to the native Indians; very few of them left less than 2% of the total population.

I also visited the Yangmingshan National Park near the mountains just above the hot springs in Xinbeitou.
